Two meetings on chemicals and organic pollutants | |
21-24 October, Geneva: Tenth Meeting of the Rotterdam Convention Chemical Review Committee (CRC10): This subsidiary body of the Rotterdam Convention reviews chemicals and pesticide formulations according to the criteria set out by the Convention in Annexes II and IV respectively and makes recommendations to the COP for listing these chemicals in Annex III. 26-30 October, Geneva: Tenth Meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC 10): The POPRC is a subsidiary body to the Stockholm Convention established for reviewing chemicals proposed for listing in Annex A, Annex B, and/or Annex C. |

Two Sustainable Public Procurement Prioritisation workshops | |
Two workshops on Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) Prioritisation are going to be held in Chisinau, Moldova on 6 October, and in Kiev, Ukraine on 7 October. The workshops are organised by UNEP in the framework of the ‘Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighbourhood’ programme (EaP GREEN). For the Moldova one, UNEP has partnered with the Agency of Public Procurement of the Republic of Moldova, whereas for the second workshop UNEP’s partner is the State Environmental Agency of Ukraine. The objective of the national prioritisation workshops is to select prioritised groups of products and services that the Market Readiness Analysis activity of UNEP Approach to SPP will focus on. In particular, the prioritisation workshop aims at: i) presenting and discussing the SPP project progress; ii) presenting to the Steering Committee members and relevant stakeholders the UNEP Approach for SPP policy development and implementation in particular with respect to Prioritisation; iii) formally agreeing on the selected prioritised groups of products and services.

Impact of UNEA on UNEP's work | |
On 28 October, in Geneva, UNEP will hold a side event to the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy (CEP-20) entitle “Outcome of the First United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and its impactfor UNEP’s work in the European region”. This side event will provide insights into the outcome of the First United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and its impact for UNEP’s work in the European region, as well as provide updates on the implementation of the UNEA decisions. The event will be open to member States and other stakeholders, and UNEP will seek their views and comments, including assessment of the first UNEA, lessons learned, planning with regard to UNEA-2, and relevance to the deliberations of the CEP meeting and EfE process. Jan Dusik, UNEP Regional Director, will speak at the event.

Alpine Space Programme C3-Alps project closing conference | |
The Alpine Space Programme C3-Alps project closing conference will take place on 14 October in Vienna, Austria. The conference is co-funded by the Alpine Space Programme of the EU, organized by the Umweltbundesamt, UNEP Vienna – Regional Office for Europe, and the Austrian Association of Cities and Towns, and implemented by the C3-Alps partnership. The conference will bring together representatives from regions, municipalities and cities, public administration officers, policy makers, practitioners, and experts from national to local level. It is designed to facilitate the direct exchange of knowledge and experiences from peer to peer, from region to region, and across governance levels.
