New coalition government for Latvia | |
On 6 January, Latvian President Andris Berzins asked Laimdota Straujuma, a 62 yearold economist and Agriculture Minister since 2011, to form a new coalition government, following the resignation of PM Valdis Dombrovskis. Ms Straujuma is the first woman head of government in Latvia. The country has a population of two million, has been an EU member since 2004 and a Eurozone member since 1 January 2014. Ms Straujuma is due to lead this government until the elections planned for October 2014. |
