III 2  POST-2015 DEVELOPMENT AGENDA
The voice of civil society

The Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Meeting was held at UNEP headquarters on 23 March prior to the meeting of the Open Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives to UNEP (OECPR).

The meeting brought together a wide range of major groups and stakeholders and their regional representatives across the six UNEP regions. The meeting was opened by H.E. Ms Pataki, Romania’s Ambassador to Kenya, and Acting Chair of the Committee.

The meeting offered an opportunity to present and discussed extensively the nature and scope of the Committee and the role it plays in a strengthened UNEP; key opportunities for stakeholders’ engagement in the Committee; the draft policy on Stakeholder Engagement at UNEP.

Participants were also briefed on key issues on the Committee’s agenda, including UNEP’s contribution to the Post-2015 development agenda and Environmental Rule of Law with a special focus on illegal trade in wildlife and timber.

Participants had the opportunity to participate in an open dialogue session with the Deputy Executive Director of UNEP, Ibrahim Thiaw, and they welcomed the importance of such dialogue and encouraged UNEP to continue such sessions in the future.

The major groups and stakeholders also had a unique opportunity to participate in an interactive dialogue with governments (Committee of Permanent Representatives) on stakeholder engagement.
