From a Protocol to action for the Caspian | |
Experts will meet on 16-21 April in Mahmudabad, Iran to discuss how to translate the Aktau Protocol of the Tehran Convention into change on the ground.
The Protocol entered into force last July and regulates how countries respond to and cooperate on oil pollution incidents.
National experts will also negotiate a potential new protocol on monitoring, assessment, access to and exchange of information, as well as cooperation with the private sector.
During a roundtable, delegates will further discuss cooperation with the private sector - in particular oil and gas companies operating in the Caspian Sea.
UN Environment hosts the interim Secretariat of the Tehran Convention in Geneva. The April meetings are organised in close collaboration with the government of Iran.
