default  POST-2015 DEVELOPMENT AGENDA
EU institutions and civil society debate on the Post-2015 framework
On 13-14 February, a conference of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) "A new global partnership: European civil society positions on the post-2015 framework" brought together stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds to voice their positions and to debate on the Post-2015 framework: its underlying principles of integration and universality, priority themes it should address, its implications and the transformations that will have to take place in our societies.

The event included interventions by EESC Vice-President Hans-Joachim Wilms; Amina Mohammed, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on Post-2015 Development Planning (through video message); Csaba Kőrösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and Co-Chair of the UN Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals and Janez Potočnik, EU Environment Commissioner.

On its second day, Achim Steiner, UNEP’s Executive Director contributed by video message to the session “A global partnership for transition to a new sustainable development model.” He gave the perspective of UNEP on the SDGs and Post-2015 agenda, reiterating the need for universal action and an integrated approach. He also emphasized the importance of civil society, and in particular NGOs, to be part of the conversation. “It is through public actions and public debate (…) that governments will hopefully find a set of Sustainable Development Goals that will be appropriate for our age and the challenges we face. “
