Supporting the transition to Sustainable Consumption and Production

Ways of moving sustainable consumption and production (SCP) from ideas into action in Eastern European countries will be discussed in a meeting organised by UNEP and Romania’s Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests.

This second Eastern European Regional Meeting of the 10-year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP) is due to take place 9-10 February. The meeting is sponsored by the European Commission and the Federal Office of the Environment of the Swiss Confederation.

The 10YFP is a global framework that aims to develop and replicate policies, tools and initiatives that promote sustainable consumption and production, eradicate poverty and decouple countries’ economic growth from environmental degradation.

During the meeting, countries from the Region will learn from each other’s success stories and challenges in implementing SCP policies and initiatives. They will identify action areas for future SCP actions at both national and regional level, and will seek to develop a common message on the topic ahead of the Eighth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference taking place in June this year.

The event will also provide an opportunity to broaden stakeholders’ engagement in the 10YFP and identify concrete opportunities for collaboration in the context of the six 10YFP Programmes.

This regional meeting will bring together 10YFP National Focal Points, government as well as civil society and business sector representatives from at least 19 Eastern European countries.

Representatives from Central Asia will also attend the event in order to share their experiences and gain insights for the future of SCP in their sub-region.
