Transformative year ahead

The United Nations Environment Assembly will meet for the second time on 23-27 May in Nairobi.

There, participants will set out their vision for how UNEP can deliver the environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A high-level segment will bring together ministers for a multi-stakeholder dialogue, where concrete tools for achieving the SDGs will be explored under the theme ‘Healthy Environment – Healthy People’.

Civil society will also be represented at the Assembly and can already take part in the conversation through the My UNEA platform. The event will be preceded by the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum in the Kenyan capital on 21-22 May.

The following month, Environment Ministers from across the pan-European region will gather in the Georgian city of Batumi on 6-10 June to plan measures to fight air pollution and ensure the transition to a Green Economy.

The meeting, known as the Eighth ‘Environment for Europe’ conference, will be led by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe with support - including side events - provided by UNEP.
