Maryam Niamir-Fuller, Special Advisor to UNEP’s Executive Director on Post-2015 and Sustainable Development Goals, will be addressing on 14 April a public event in Brussels entitled ‘Setting the agenda for a sustainable future - the road to the UN summit on the Post-2015 agenda.’ The event, organised at the European Economic and Social Committee, aims at raising political awareness of the Post-2015 agenda and providing a forum for a discussion between political decision-makers and civil society in Europe. Other speakers include Gustavo Martin Prada, Director, DG DEVCO, European Commission who will present the roadmap to the summit and Kitty van der Heyden, World Resources Insitute. Representatives from civil society organisations will put forward their views on the Commission Communication on A Global Partnership for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development after 2015 and discuss with representatives from the Commission, the Council of the EU and the audience. In the evening, Ms Niamir-Fuller will continue the debate directly after the CineONU screening of the documentary film “The Walls and The Tiger” by Indian director and producer Sushma Kallam. The film presents a unique perspective into the lives and struggles of villagers in India faced with the imposed installation of large industrial parks on their lands, posing a threat to the populations and environment.
The screening is organised by the United Nations Regional Information Centre in collaboration with UNEP and takes place at the Goethe Institute in Brussels.
