The climate change challenge | |
On 4 November, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), presented in Brussels the key findings of IPCC's fifth assessment report.
The Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA), together with the European Commission and in close cooperation with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), organized the presentation in the European Parliament.
The event represented the first delivery of the report outside the main launch only a few days ahead in Copenhagen. The audience, consisting of EU policy-makers, public and private key stakeholders, and civil society representatives, received first-hand information on how serious the threats are that climate change poses and what options the EU has to address them. Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, outlined the vision of the new European Commission for greater corporate involvement in solving climate change in partnership with public sector.
The IPCC is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change and was established by UNEP and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988.
