UNEP ON THE GROUND |
Global Gender and Environment Outlook | |
The Multi-stakeholder Consultation on the Global Gender and Environment Outlook (GGEO) report was held from 4 to 6 November, in Bonn, Germany. The GGEO is the first global assessment on gender and environment. It is a commitment that UNEP made during the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012 in response to the call of the Network of Women Ministers and Leaders for the Environment (NWMLE) and environmental women’s organizations to lead a global assessment on gender and environment. The consultation brought together representatives from governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, and other partners to discuss the outline, methodology and processes for the GGEO, which will guide the production of the assessment report. The GGEO will ensure that all thematic areas addressed by the report will be based on a gender analysis, looking at how environmental change and policies impact men and women differently and the specific role and tools for ensuring equitable solutions.
