On 10 and 11 May, the State Historical-Architectural Reserve Icherisheher and the "EcoSphere" Social-Ecological Center and Administration organized climate change and energy saving days.
This event was part of the EU-funded project “Sustainable Energy Planning in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus—towards the Covenant of Mayors” (COMO)” which is coordinated by UNEP. Other partners are the cities of Beltsy in the Republic of Moldova and Vinnytisa in Ukraine.
Under the project, local and regional authorities voluntarily commit to increasing energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources. The aim is to reduce the CO2 emissions in the cities by at least 20% by 2020.
Thematic events took place to increase awareness among the general public and Icherisheher residents about climate change and specific energy-saving measures, as well as about the COMO initiative.
Participants in the event included local residents, students from several Azeri universities, major energy stakeholders, NGOs, representatives of State agencies, foreign embassies and international organizations, national experts, associations of cities and the COMO-East Office in Tbilisi.
