On 22 May, on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech of the University of Liège, BeeOdiversity and UNEP held a conference entitled “Agriculture and the preservation of biodiversity: is biodiversity an island in the middle of the agricultural world?”.

The conference brought together members of Belgian NGOs, academia and enterprises, as well as international institutions to discuss the role of agriculture role in biodiversity. Representing UNEP was Thierry Lucas, who spoke about biodiversity and agricultural production. Other keynote speakers were Goldman Environmental Prize Winner Ignace Schops on “How to act for biodiversity”, and several professors from the University of Liège who spoke about the importance of green infrastructure for intensive farming.
