World wildlife Conference briefing

The Geneva Environment Network (GEN) is organising a briefing ahead of a major meeting where decisions will be taken on whether to increase or decrease controls on the international trade in wildlife animals and plants.


Some 62 proposals covering 500 species will be discussed at the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade


The decisions taken – on national laws, enforcement, capacity building, product traceability and more - will guide CITES’ work up until 2019.


Ahead of the event, a briefing open to all will take place at 10am on 14 September in Geneva’s International Environment House II.

Finalists eye green university prize

The European winner of the prestigious Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES) Green Gown Award will be announced on 13 September, with two universities shortlisted.


The university seen by judges to have achieved the greatest impact through a partnership between staff and students will be announced at the GUPES Green Gown Awards Ceremony at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


The awards are a joint initiative supported by the UN Environment and the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC). The prizes have expanded further across the globe with an emphasis on profiling and learning from the Southern Hemisphere. All regional winners will automatically be entered into an International Green Gown Awards contest.
